What is the HCG diet?

Have you ever wondered what exactly the HCG diet is? Well, the HCG is an abbreviation for human chorionic gonadotropin. Human chorionic gonadotropin is a hormone which is created throughout the pregnancy period to support a baby growth.

Although this hormone has been used for different reasons in the medical association, in the recent times it has become more widespread as the essential part of the special diet, commonly known as the HCG diet. This diet has recently become the focus of attention. The HCG diet is all about taking the injection with the growth hormone on a daily basis. Moreover, the hcg diet plan includes consuming of maximum 500 calories per day. These are some of the reasons why there are various, sometimes confronted opinions about the diet.

The development of the HCG diet

It all started when a British endocrinologist Albert T. W. Simeons suggested usage of the HCG as an addition to the ultra-low calorie diet. He came to this idea during the time he was conducting a survey in India. Throughout this period he was studying expectant mothers on the calorie-deficient diet, and overweight boys. They were medicated with the low-dose HCG. Afterward, Simeons noticed that both of them had lost fat, instead of a muscle tissue.

More about the diet

If you make a decision to do the HCG diet, it is suggested that you act in accordance with the Dr. Simeons’ original HCG diet plan. This diet protocol is summarized in the doctor’s manuscript which is known as Pounds & Inches.

In case that you make the determination to go on this diet, it is required that you take hcg diet drops for at least 23 days. These days involve two days of a loading period, and then 21 days of a burning period on a 500-calories diet. Needless to say, if you want results, cheating is not an option.  If you do deviate from this diet, you should just continue with. But, you should have in mind that you are doing it for yourself. That is the reason enough for you to be persistent about your decision. After all, the consistency is the key, don’t you agree?

When you finish with taking HCG diet drops within the mentioned period, you will carry on with a low-calorie diet for another three days, but without any HCG drops. In that way, the HCG will completely move out of your body. This 3-day period is followed by the period of maintenance. During the maintenance cycle, you should not consume any sugar or starches for another three weeks.

Before you go for this diet, like any other kind of diet, you should consult with your doctor regarding any health concerns one may have. Also, it is important for women not to begin with the HCG diet just before or during the menstrual period.
