Home :: Family Health :: Urethritis Urethritis - Urethritis symptom, treatment, causesUrethritis is a medical term for the inflammation of the urethra (which drains urine from the bladder), mostly due to infection (often ~exually transmitted), occasionally because of mechanical or chemical irritation, and sometimes for no discoverable reason. Symptoms include pain or a burning sensation on passing urine, frequent urination, and a discharge from the urethra. Treatment is by antibiotics for infection and steps to eliminate non-infectious causes. Occasionally recurrent urethritis in men may lead to scarring in the lining of the urethra resulting in URETHRAL STRICTURE. Urethritis is an inflammation of the urethra. The symptoms are dysuria , which is painful or difficulty. This is the tube that carries urine and semen through the penis and forms the opening at the end of the penis. In women the urethra is much shorter, about 1 and 1/2 inches long, and the opening is just above the vagina. Because the opening of the urethra is so just above the vagina and not far from the anus, bacteria can easily enter it from these areas. Men between ages 20-35 are most at risk for developing pain with urination, as are men who have multiple sexual partners or those who engage in high-risk behaviors such as not using condoms or anal intercourse. Urethritis may be caused by the same germs that cause urinary tract infections (also called bladder infections) and the symptoms may be similar. Urethritis is a medical condition characterized by an inflammation of the urethra, which is a tube in the male body that passes urine and reproductive fluids from the inside to the outside of the body. This disease is caused by some bacteria which can be picked up from the rectum or the mouth of your partner. Some experience a discharge accompanied by painful urination, and gonorrhea may be the first diagnosis. NSU does not respond to penicillin and therefore anyone who suspects that they may have it should be tested immediately. Causes of UrethritisThe common Causes of Urethritis :
