Home :: Family Health :: Sick Sinus Syndrome Sick Sinus Syndrome - Sick Sinus Syndrome symptom, treatment, causesSick Sinus Syndrome is a disease of combination of symptoms resulting from intermittent disordered function of the heart's sinoatrial node, the main controller of heart rate and rhythm. sick sinus syndrome may follow heart disease such as CARDIO MYOPATHYor HEART ATTACK, but often the cause is obscure. The symptoms occur in episodes and may include dizziness, confusion, fatigue, palpitations and fainting, all resulting from inappropriate heart rates. Diagnosis is by electrocardiograph (ECG),If attacks are mild no treatment may be needed, but sufferers with severe, frequent symptoms usually needan artificial pacemaker. Sick sinus syndrome , also called Sinus node dysfunction is a group of abnormal heart rhythms ( arrhythmias ) presumably caused by a malfunction of the sinus node , the heart's "natural" pacemaker. Sick sinus syndrome is a disorder of the sinus node of the heart, which regulates heartbeat. With sick sinus syndrome, the sinus node fails to signal properly, resulting in changes in the heart rate. In sick sinus syndrome, patients normally will experience bradycardia, or slowed heart rate. Also, it is not uncommon to see fluctuations between slow and rapid heart rate (tachycardia). This makes the diagnosis and treatment of sick sinus syndrome more complicated than most other cardiac arrhythmias (irregular heart beats). A sick sinus node may be responsible for starting beats too slowly, pausing too long between initiation of heartbeats, or not producing heartbeats at all. Sick sinus syndrome (SSS) is a set of symptoms caused by abnormal electrical activity in a part of the heart called the sinus node. These disorders include bradycardia , tachycardia , and a combination of the two in which the heart alternates between too fast and too slow, called bradycardia-tachycardia. With sick sinus syndrome, the irregular heartbeat is caused by a problem with the electrical signals of the heart. The problem originates in an area of the heart called the sinoatrial node. Whether the heart beats too fast or too slow, or a combination, this disorder can be treated very effectively. If you think you may have this condition, you should contact your doctor to discuss treatment. Causes of Sick Sinus SyndromeThe common Causes of Sick Sinus Syndrome :
