Autism - Autism symptom, treatment, causes

Autism is a developmental disorder in children with impairment in communication (spoken and gestural), in sound response, and imaginative play.

Autism is the disorder of central nervous system which can occur at any age mainly characterized by impaired social interaction, problems with verbal and nonverbal communication, and unusual, repetitive, or severely limited activities and interests. It persists throughout life. People with autism are usually more severely disabled, while those with Asperger syndrome tend to be more able, although this isn't always so.

Children with autism may fail to respond to their name and often avoid eye contact with other people.  They have difficulty interpreting what others are thinking or feeling because they can't understand social cues, such as tone of voice or facial expressions, and don't watch other people's faces for clues about appropriate behavior. Most kids with autism don't like changes in routines. They like to stay on a schedule that is always the same. The disorder occurs three to four times more often in boys than in girls. The severity of symptoms is variable.

Causes of Autism

The common causes of Autism

  • Defects in genes that control brain growth and that regulate how neurons communicate with each other.

  • There are a number of controversial therapies or interventions available for autistic children, but few, if any, are supported by scientific studies.
  • Stopping inappropriate behaviors so the child can relate better to others.
  • Stimulants can help with hyperactivity, while antipsychotic drugs sometimes will control repetitive and aggressive behaviors.
