Adenitis - Adenitis symptom, treatment, causes
Adenitis is the inflammation of any gland, but the term Adenitis usually refers to the lymph nodes in the neck, armpit and groin. These are called the sentinel lymph glands, because they help to prevent the spread of infection from the head and limbs via the lymph (the watery fluid between tissue cells) to the blood.
Adenitis is Inflammation of a gland or lymph node. This is a bacterial infection of the lymph nodes of the neck. These glands normally produce sebum, a fatty secretion that helps prevent drying of the skin. The skin get superinfections with bacterial infections . Poodles, Akitas, Samoyeds and Vizlas are at increased risk for this condition, but it has been reported in other breeds and in mixed breed dogs. The disease starts on top of the head and spreads to the rest of the body. It starts when dogs are one to three years of age and tends to get progressively worse with time.Enlargement of lymph nodes may be caused by proliferation or invasion of inflammatory cells or by infiltration of neoplastic cells.
Mesenteric adenitis may not be made until after a surgeon has removed a healthy appendix.It can be mistaken for acute appendicitis . Sebaceous adenitis is a skin disease appearing most frequently in young adult dogs. sebaceous adenitis is a perplexing condition in which the sebaceous glands in the skin. Sebaceous adenitis is usually first noticed in young adult dogs Dogs without thyroid disease and Addison's disease respond the best Sebaceous adenitis but systemic illness appear to be more commonbut severly affected dog usually can be made happy and comfortable. Cervical adenitis an inflammation of a lymph node in the neck . The distribution of enlarged nodes is important in that almost all healthy children have small, palpable lymph nodes in the anterior cervical triangle, but palpable, nontender lymph nodes in the supraclavicular region can suggest malignancy. A generalized form presents with dramatic amounts of scale on the skin, scale adherent to hairs and the coat and skin often dry to the touch.

The common causes of Adenitis
- Localized bacterial infection.
- Tuberculosis.
- bacterial infection as Yersinia pseudotuberculosis.
Symptoms of Adenitis
The common Symptoms of Adenitis
- Fever.
- Warmth and redness in the area of the mass.
- May or may not have hyperpigmentation in affected areas.
- Hair on head, tail and feet are usually not affected.
- Malaise.
- Swelling.
- Vomiting
Treament of Adenitis
- Two hour application of bath oil, followed by five to seven shampoos. Repeat twice monthly. Hair loss is seen initially followed by hair regrowth.
- In older patients with less severe symptoms, oral antibiotics are usually sufficient. Sometimes, one or two injections of antibiotics will be given as well.
- Fatty acid supplementation, evening primrose oil, 500 mg twice daily.
- Retinoid therapy and cyclosporine have been used with variable results in refractory cases
